Will I need to take assessments every time I apply?
Assessment responses are typically reused for 12 months from the date of assessment completion.
Once you’ve taken an assessment, your assessment results will be used for any position that uses that same assessment within the 12 month reuse period.
Different positions may use different combinations of assessments.
If I received multiple notices to complete assessments, do I have to complete them for each?
The application system will check if you have already completed the needed assessments for the job. If not, you will get a notice and a deadline to complete them.
If you submit multiple applications and receive multiple assessment notices, completing the assessments for one announcement may complete some or all assessments needed for other announcements.
An Example of Score Reuse Among Multiple Job Applications
On September 30, you submit four applications, each requiring assessments:
Application 1 for Job Announcement 1 - Instructed to complete assessments by October 1:
- Occupational Reading Assessment
- Occupational Interaction Assessment
Application 2 for Job Announcement 2 - Instructed to complete assessments by October 5:
- Occupational Reading Assessment
- Occupational Interaction Assessment
Application 3 for Job Announcement 3 - Instructed to complete assessments by October 10:
- Occupational Reading Assessment
- Occupational Interaction Assessment
Application 4 for Job Announcement 4 - Instructed to complete assessments by October 3:
- Occupational Reading Assessment
- Occupational Judgment Assessment
- Occupational Interaction Assessment
October 2:
- If you try to complete the assessments for Application 1, you won't be able to because the deadline (October 1) has passed.
- If you complete the Occupational Reading Assessment for Application 2 and take a break, your assessment results will also apply to Applications 3 and 4 since they require the same assessment.
October 3:
- If you complete the Occupational Interaction Assessment for Application 2, you will get an Assessments are Complete notification for Application 2.
- You will also get an Assessments are Complete notification for Application 3 since it required the Occupational Reading and Interaction Assessments which you have now completed.
- You won't get an Assessments are Complete notification for Application 4 until you also complete the Occupational Judgment Assessment by the deadline, October 3. Once you complete this assessment you will be notified all assessments are complete for Application 4.
October 4:
- If you apply for Job Announcement 5, which requires the same assessments, your assessment results will be automatically reused, and you will be notified.
Why are assessment results reused?
Reuse of assessment responses makes things easier for you. It means you don't have to retake the tests for each job application within a certain time period. This also helps protect the fairness of the assessment by making sure the test questions aren't used too much by any one person in a short timeframe.
How long will my assessment results be reused?
Unless told otherwise, your assessment results will be reused for 12 months from the date you complete the assessment. Once you’ve taken an assessment, your assessment results will automatically be used for any job application requiring that assessment within that year.
How do I know if my previous assessment results are still being used?
The assessment instructions will tell you how long your assessment results will be reused.
If you apply to another job announcement and see a prompt to take a USA Hire assessment (i.e., Assessments are Required notification), then your reuse period has ended.
A note about similar assessments
There are many types of USA Hire assessments, some tailored for specific agency or job needs. Even if a new assessment looks similar to one you've already taken, it is different if you are prompted to take it again within your reuse period.
